Dr. Jennifer Herbert
Dr. Jenny Herbert, along with her husband Ben, are the owners of Arbor View Animal Hospital. Dr. Herbert grew up in Downers Grove, Illinois. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from The University of Illinois in 2003. Prior to attending veterinary school Dr. Herbert spent four years full time as a veterinary assistant at a small animal/exotic hospital. She received her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from The University of Illinois in May of 2012. Dr. Herbert has a passion for exotic animal and avian medicine and has spent 4 years working in a wildlife medical clinic. Although she has an interest in exotic animal medicine, she is passionate about working with her dog and cat patients too! Dr. Herbert believes all animals deserve quality care regardless of whether they have fur, fins, scales or feathers. She currently shares her life with her husband, daughter Mackenzie, three pomeranians, and a 210 gallon saltwater fish tank. In her spare time she enjoys horseback riding, reading fantasy novels, gardening, SCUBA diving and downhill skiing.
Dr. Herbert is also a member of Association of Avian Veterinarians, Association of Reptilian and Amphibian Veterinarians, and The Association of Sugar Glider Veterinarians.
Dr. Johanna Nimeth (formerly Neil)
Dr. Johanna Nimeth was born in Iowa City, IA and raised in Rock Island, IL. She graduated from the University of Illinois, College of Veterinary Medicine in 2010. Her interest in veterinary medicine began when she was a child and her pet hamster got sick. Seeing the veterinarians take care of her little hamster made her realize what she wanted to do for a living. Dr. Nimeth has over 5 years of experience working with exotic animals and avian species. She spent almost 2 years at the Clinic for the Rehabilitation of Wildlife in Sanibel, Florida and was the manager for the Wildlife Medical Clinic throughout veterinary school. When she is not working, she enjoys spending time with her family, which includes her husband, Frank, and son, Frankie, as well as her dog, three cats, snake, and geckos. In her spare time she enjoys cooking, playing classical guitar, and being outdoors.
Dr. Carol Dartz
Dr. Carol Kopko Dartz, was born in Hobart, IN and, except for school, has lived in NW Indiana all her life. She graduated from Purdue University’s School of Veterinary Medicine in 1977 and has been practicing veterinary medicine ever since. She is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA), Calumet Area Veterinary Medical Association, Association of Avian Veterinarians, Association of Reptilian and Amphibian Veterinarians, Chicago Herpetological Society, Association of Mammalian Veterinarians, American Boarding Kennel Association and has numerous Certificates of Excellence in Education. She has experience with a large variety of small animals, birds, and exotics and owns many herself. She is somewhat of a perfectionist and believes in quality and excellence in care. In her spare time she enjoys reading science fiction, mystery novels and scuba diving.
Dr. Jessica Byerly
Dr. Byerly was born in Elmhurst, IL and raised in Bloomington, IL. She received her Bachelor of Arts from Grinnell College in 2011 and graduated from the University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine in 2015. While at Illinois, she was on the executive board of the Non-Traditional Species Club, Wildlife Medical Clinic, Behavior Club, and Integrative Medicine Club. During vet school, she pursued externships at Brookfield Zoo and Chicago Exotics Animal Hospital to gain further experience caring for exotic animals. Dr. Byerly loves working with all kinds of animals, but she is particularly fond of guinea pigs. She is currently a member of the Association of Exotic Mammal Veterinarians, Chicago Veterinary Medical Association, American Veterinary Medical Association, Association of Sugar Glider Veterinarians, and the Calumet Area Veterinary Medical Association. Dr. Byerly currently shares her home with her two beloved guinea pigs. In her spare time, she enjoys reading, traveling, and spending time with family and friends.
Dr. Jenice Bell
Dr. Jenice Bell is from Hebron, Indiana and graduated from Ross University’s School of Veterinary Medicine in 2017. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology and Minor in Chemistry from Purdue University in 2007. Dr. Bell worked full time as a veterinary assistant and part time as a pet nutrition consultant in NW Indiana for 9 years prior to vet school. During vet school, she worked on externships at the Belize Zoo, the Perth Zoo in Australia, with wildlife rescue organizations and was the founder for the Aquatic Veterinary Medical Association at Ross University. Aquatics and reptiles are Dr. Bell’s special interests, especially turtles, but she loves seeing all types of companion and exotic animals! She had a variety of family pets growing up including birds, cats, a rabbit, a Labrador retriever, green anoles, and has cared for many more. When she has free time, you’ll find Dr. Bell traveling, SCUBA diving and volunteering with local animal and 4-H groups.
Bobbie joined our team in 2016. Bobbie graduated from the Purdue University Veterinary Technology Program in 1987 and has worked in veterinary medicine for almost 30 years. She worked at the Purdue University Large Animal Hospital for almost 10 years, New Carlisle Animal Clinic as head Veterinary Technician for 9 years and Brown Mackie College as the Veterinary Technology Department Director for 8 years. Bobbie is very passionate about veterinary medicine and enjoys interacting with pets and their owners. Bobbie lives in Chesterton with her husband and they have 5 daughters between them that range from 6 years old to 24 years old. They also have 6 cats (Buddha, Willie, Kit Kat, Greg, Phoebe and Piper) and one dog (Tina).
Kati started working at Arbor View in 2012. She was attending Brown Mackie to obtain a degree for Veterinary Technician. She has since graduated, and is a RVT. She has two fur babies, Captain and Morgan her two cats, and Finley her pitbull. In her free time, she loves to go hiking and to the beach with Finley. She also enjoys camping, skiing, and spending time at her family’s cottage.
Stephanie started working at Arbor View in 2001. She started off as a kennel assistant, then moved to the Veterinary assistant position after three years. In 2016 she also became the assistant manager, and does both positions. She has always had a love for animals. She feels blessed to have a job that allows her to fulfill her passion of working with animals daily. She has one fur pup Lizzy. In her free time, Stephanie likes to spend time outdoors with her family.
Cecilia started Arbor View in 2011. She started off as a Kennel assistant, and is now a Veterinary assistant. She currently getting her undergrad in Biology, and hoping to attend Veterinary school after graduation. She has four fur babies, Wilbur her dog, and her cats Lana, James, and Oliver.
Ashley has been working at Arbor View since 2013. She started as a Kennel Assistant and is now a Veterinary Assistant. She has always loved animals from a very young age. She graduated from Brown Mackie College Veterinary Technician in 2015. In her spare time, she loves to play with her yellow Lab Penny, ride horses, bow hunt, and anything else outdoors.
Tricia has been at AV since 2013. She went to IUN. Has a calico cat named Zoey. She loves all animals, but has a soft spot for cats and runs kitten class at Arbor View. She enjoys traveling, spending time with family, and baseball games.
Nan has been a veterinary assistant at Arbor View Animal Hospital since December 2005. She has also been one of the teachers of our Puppy Kindergarten class since 2006. She enjoys playing a variety of sports and running. Her fur family consists of two boxers Chopper and Paisley, and 2 cats Chico and Yoda.
Abbie started Arbor View in 2016. She studied at Purdue University Calumet majoring in pre-veterinary science, but then later switched to biology, and graduated in Spring 2016 with a Bachelors of Science in Biology. She has one fur baby, a shih-tzu, named Gizmo. She knew that she has always wanted to work with animals, and being a part of Arbor View family is better than she had imagined.
Kirstin started working at Arbor View Animal Hospital in 2016. She graduated from Saint Joseph's College with a Biology Degree in Wildlife Ecology. Her love for animals brought her to Arbor View and she is very thankful to be a part of their team. She has some fur babies of her own: Her beagle, Tucker, and her two cats, Marley and Luna.
Karen started working at Arbor View in 2016. She is originally from Illinois and has lived in Indiana for almost 6 years. Karen’s fur babies consist of three dogs, Lily, Blue, and Jase. She also has two ferrets, Bruno and Kaluha, three gerbils, and two goldfish. She has been in the Veterinary field for over two years now and has recently gone back to school to become an RVT.
Andie started at Arbor View in 2016. She studied at PUC and was a Paramedic prior to going back to her passion for all animals. She has 3 fur babies (Birdie, Garfield and Peep). Andie loves traveling and spending time with her family. She loves being part of the Arbor View family.
Nicole grew up in the dunes and woodlands of this area and has always enjoyed watching and learning about wildlife. Though she has a degree in English and Anthropology and has worked in many diverse fields, she found the most rewarding work of her life when she started at Arbor View in 2013 as a Receptionist. A year later she became an Assistant which she loves even more. She loves to help all of Arbor View's furry, feathered, scaly friends, and their humans. She has a special fondness for felines; she and her husband share their lives with four rescued kitties: Squee, Obi, Anakin, and Mac. She also enjoys hiking, biking, and reading and watching sci-fi, fantasy, and horror.
Amanda started Arbor View in 2013. Growing up in Northwest Indiana Amanda Grutzius love of animals developed at a young age. From rescuing animals to have pets of her own her love became a passion that now has turned into a dream. Having four dogs of her own and working at Arbor View she gets to encounter her love each day.
Kayla has been a kennel assistant since 2016. Kayla has always had a heart for animals. She has 2 dogs and 1 rabbit of her own. In her spare time Kayla like to spend time with all of her fur babies.
