Diagnostic Testing Referral Process
At Arbor View Animal Hospital, our goal is to support you while preserving your client-patient relationship.
We function as an extension of your practice. Unless otherwise specified, our role is to:
- Perform the requested diagnostic procedure (CT, Fluoroscopy, Ultrasound, Endoscopy)
- Provide a detailed report and send all results directly to you, allowing you to review findings with your client and make recommendations as if the diagnostics were performed within your own practice
- Support you in remaining the primary veterinarian responsible for case management and client communication
Thank you for trusting our team to support your case—we value the opportunity to partner with you in providing the best care for your patients.
How the Referral Process Works
1. Complete and submit our Referral Form (referral form is located further down the page)
Provide detailed history and specify the requested imaging.
2. We Contact the Owner
Most referred diagnostic procedures require general anesthesia or sedation (exceptions may include fluoroscopy and select ultrasound cases).
Our team will contact your client within 1–2 business days to schedule a pre-anesthetic evaluation.
For urgent or emergent referrals, please contact our office directly after submitting the referral form to discuss the case. Although emergency availability cannot be guaranteed, we will make every effort to accommodate time-sensitive situations.
3. Anesthesia Evaluation Appointment
During this visit, our veterinarians will:
- Perform a physical exam to ensure the patient is a safe anesthesia candidate
- Review your diagnostic request to confirm imaging goals and areas of interest
- Develop a custom anesthetic plan based on patient history and findings
- Provide the owner with an accurate diagnostic treatment plan estimate
4. Procedure Scheduling
Once cleared at the patients anesthesia exam by our veterinarians, we will schedule their procedure. Procedure availability is on a first come first serve basis and depending on the urgency of the case we do our best to schedule the diagnostic procedure as soon as possible.
Important Notes for Referring Veterinarians
1. Please do NOT have your client contact us directly to schedule
This helps prevent confusion and ensures we maintain your role as the primary veterinarian.
2. Medical Records Submission Required
Please email all records to: arborviewah@gmail.com
3. Pre-Anesthesia Requirements
Up-to-date vaccines (see species-specific requirements below)
- Dogs: Rabies, DHP
- Cats: Rabies, FVRCP
- Ferrets: Rabies
- Rabbits: RHDV vaccine (we can provide to patient if not available at your clinic)
CBC/Chemistry within 60 days, and for canine patients, a heartworm test completed within the last 12 months
- Some cases may require more recent lab work
4. Our Preferred Approach
We strongly prefer that vaccines and labwork are completed at your clinic to maintain continuity of care.
Our client care team will reach out to your clinic if a patient is missing their required labwork or vaccines to request they be completed prior to contacting your client. If you have any questions about what is required please reach out to our reception team.
Referring Veterinarian Communication & Results
1. Any test results will be sent directly to the referring veterinarian for interpretation and client communication.
Our role is to perform the diagnostic procedure and provide results; interpretation with the client is deferred to the referring veterinarian, who has full knowledge of the case history.
2. Standard Turnaround Time:
Results are typically emailed within 3 business days of test submission. To allow for our referring veterinarians to review the results we do tell owners to expect results in 5 business days, unless a stat request is made. If a stat request is made we will inform owners results will be made available to their referring veterinarian as soon as possible and this timeframe varies based on species and could be between 24-48 hours post procedure to allow our referring veterinarians time to review the results.
2. STAT Turnaround (if selected above):
Reports are typically available to our referring veterinarians within 6–36 hours, depending on radiologist availability and species (exotics usually take longer, canine/feline patients typically return faster).
