At Arbor View Animal Hospital, our veterinary nurses operate at a level beyond the typical industry standard. Their role goes beyond the tasks of a veterinary assistant – our vet nurses are empowered to fully utilize their skills, delivering patient care and managing their day with independence During your externship, you’ll have the opportunity to:

 

  • Master multi-tasking and case management
  • Enhance your client communication and education abilities
  • Develop problem-solving strategies for unexpected situations
  • Cultivate leadership skills and learn effective delegation
  • Gain hands-on experience with both basic and advanced technical procedures, including ultrasound, CT, fluoroscopy, and standard suturing

Hone Your Skills in Not Only Canine and Feline Medicine But Exotic Pets Too!

Our client base is not your typical small animal clinic clients. Currently, our patients are ~40% exotic and 60% canine/feline. An externship at Arbor View will help prepare you for the possibility of working with an endless amount species upon graduation.

Our exotic patients typically consist of rabbits, guinea pigs, chinchillas, ferrets, Patagonian cavies, pot belly pigs, foxes, skunks, parrots, snakes, lizards, amphibians, fish, invertebrates, some zoo species (such as wallabies, otters, and non-human primates), etc…

Interested in Wildlife Rehab? We Have That Too!

We also have a wildlife rehab license and this allows us to treat and rehabilitate local injured wildlife. Typical wildlife cases include raptors (hawks/owls), songbirds, small mammals (squirrels, rabbits, opossums), reptiles (turtles/tortoises), and amphibians (toads/frogs).

You will gain vast experience with wildlife and the challenges they pose from handling to diagnostic acquisition.

How Long Is the Externship?

The length of the externship is based on your schools’ requirements. Our externships are also offered year-round.
