Dr. Jennifer Herbert
Dr. Jenny Herbert, along with her husband Ben, are the owners of Arbor View Animal Hospital. Dr. Herbert grew up in Downers Grove, Illinois. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from The University of Illinois in 2003. Prior to attending veterinary school Dr. Herbert spent four years full time as a veterinary assistant at a small animal/exotic hospital. She received her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from The University of Illinois in May of 2012. Dr. Herbert has a passion for exotic animal and avian medicine and has spent 4 years working in a wildlife medical clinic. Although she has an interest in exotic animal medicine, she is passionate about working with her dog and cat patients too! Dr. Herbert believes all animals deserve quality care regardless of whether they have fur, fins, scales or feathers. She currently shares her life with her husband, daughter Mackenzie, three pomeranians, and a 210 gallon saltwater fish tank. In her spare time she enjoys horseback riding, reading fantasy novels, gardening, SCUBA diving and downhill skiing.
Dr. Herbert is also a member of Association of Avian Veterinarians, Association of Reptilian and Amphibian Veterinarians, and The Association of Sugar Glider Veterinarians.
Dr. Johanna Nimeth (formerly Neil)
Dr. Johanna Nimeth was born in Iowa City, IA and raised in Rock Island, IL. She graduated from the University of Illinois, College of Veterinary Medicine in 2010. Her interest in veterinary medicine began when she was a child and her pet hamster got sick. Seeing the veterinarians take care of her little hamster made her realize what she wanted to do for a living. Dr. Nimeth has over 5 years of experience working with exotic animals and avian species. She spent almost 2 years at the Clinic for the Rehabilitation of Wildlife in Sanibel, Florida and was the manager for the Wildlife Medical Clinic throughout veterinary school. When she is not working, she enjoys spending time with her family, which includes her husband, Frank, and son, Frankie, as well as her dog, three cats, snake, and geckos. In her spare time she enjoys cooking, playing classical guitar, and being outdoors.
Dr. Carol Dartz
Dr. Carol Kopko Dartz, was born in Hobart, IN and, except for school, has lived in NW Indiana all her life. She graduated from Purdue University’s School of Veterinary Medicine in 1977 and has been practicing veterinary medicine ever since. She is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA), Calumet Area Veterinary Medical Association, Association of Avian Veterinarians, Association of Reptilian and Amphibian Veterinarians, Chicago Herpetological Society, Association of Mammalian Veterinarians, American Boarding Kennel Association and has numerous Certificates of Excellence in Education. She has experience with a large variety of small animals, birds, and exotics and owns many herself. She is somewhat of a perfectionist and believes in quality and excellence in care. In her spare time she enjoys reading science fiction, mystery novels and scuba diving.
Dr. Jessica Byerly
Dr. Byerly was born in Elmhurst, IL and raised in Bloomington, IL. She received her Bachelor of Arts from Grinnell College in 2011 and graduated from the University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine in 2015. While at Illinois, she was on the executive board of the Non-Traditional Species Club, Wildlife Medical Clinic, Behavior Club, and Integrative Medicine Club. During vet school, she pursued externships at Brookfield Zoo and Chicago Exotics Animal Hospital to gain further experience caring for exotic animals. Dr. Byerly loves working with all kinds of animals, but she is particularly fond of guinea pigs. She is currently a member of the Association of Exotic Mammal Veterinarians, Chicago Veterinary Medical Association, American Veterinary Medical Association, Association of Sugar Glider Veterinarians, and the Calumet Area Veterinary Medical Association. Dr. Byerly currently shares her home with her two beloved guinea pigs. In her spare time, she enjoys reading, traveling, and spending time with family and friends.
Dr. Jenice Bell
Dr. Jenice Bell is from Hebron, Indiana and graduated from Ross University’s School of Veterinary Medicine in 2017. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology and Minor in Chemistry from Purdue University in 2007. Dr. Bell worked full time as a veterinary assistant and part time as a pet nutrition consultant in NW Indiana for 9 years prior to vet school. During vet school, she worked on externships at the Belize Zoo, the Perth Zoo in Australia, with wildlife rescue organizations and was the founder for the Aquatic Veterinary Medical Association at Ross University. Aquatics and reptiles are Dr. Bell’s special interests, especially turtles, but she loves seeing all types of companion and exotic animals! She had a variety of family pets growing up including birds, cats, a rabbit, a Labrador retriever, green anoles, and has cared for many more. When she has free time, you’ll find Dr. Bell traveling, SCUBA diving and volunteering with local animal and 4-H groups.
